Notifications

Choose what makes your phone buzz, and pick a sound for each kind.

What it is

KeyUp notifies you with a sound about messages, friend requests, Space invitations (and guests asking to stay), incoming calls (with your ringtone) and missed calls. You can turn each kind on or off, and pick its sound in Android settings.

When to use it

Use it if KeyUp is too noisy, or you’re missing things.

How to do it

  1. Go to You › Notifications and pick Everything (messages, friends, invitations and calls), Only mentions and replies (plus calls), or Only calls.

  2. Under Notify me about, turn each kind on or off: Messages, Friend requests, Invitations, Calls and Missed calls.

  3. To change a sound or vibration, tap Sounds and vibration. Android shows the same five kinds, each with its own sound.

    Pick a sound for each kind.

  4. A message notification shows who sent it and what they said, like Sam: On my way. Photos say Sent a photo and voice notes say Voice message. New messages in the same chat stack together under the room or person’s name.

  5. On the lock screen you only see who and where, not the words. Unlock to read the message. (This follows your phone’s lock screen setting for sensitive content.)

  6. Tap Reply on a message notification to answer without opening KeyUp.

  7. Tap a notification to go straight there: a message opens that chat, and friend requests, invitations and requests to stay open the People tab.
