Using KeyUp on iPhone

Install the web app on your Home Screen, turn on notifications, keep it open while you talk, and what works differently from Android.

What it is

Until the iPhone app is ready, iPhone people use the KeyUp web app. It works best from your Home Screen. It talks and listens just like the Android app while it’s open on your screen, but an iPhone doesn’t let a web app play or record in the background.

When to use it

Read this once when you start using KeyUp on an iPhone or iPad, or when something works differently from a friend’s Android phone.

How to do it

  1. Install it on your Home Screen. Open KeyUp in Safari. On the Talk tab, tap Show me how on the Add KeyUp to your Home Screen card and follow the steps. Then open KeyUp from your Home Screen from now on. See Add KeyUp to your Home Screen.

  2. Turn on notifications. In the Home Screen app, go to You, tap Turn on notifications, then tap Allow. This only works from the Home Screen, with iOS 16.4 or later. In a Safari tab, KeyUp shows you how to add it first. See Turn on notifications on iPhone.

  3. Tap once to turn on sound. Your iPhone plays nothing until you tap. Tap a room, the talk button or Turn on sound and you’ll hear the room.

  4. Keep KeyUp open while you talk and listen. Leave it on screen. KeyUp keeps the screen on while you’re in a room (You › Keep the screen on in a room), so your iPhone doesn’t lock by itself.

  5. Coming back. When you come back to KeyUp after locking the phone or switching apps, it turns the sound back on and reconnects to your room by itself. If you see Turn on sound, tap it.
